MY ADVENTURES IN ART As a young man, I moved to Alaska. While there I started carving ducks. I did this for seven years. Also, I did many [hundreds] carvings in wood, ivory, bone, and soapstone. I suppose the highlite of that period was carving a 35' totempole for a school district. Next began a 30 yr. period of making one of a kind boxes of the freeform type. In my 60's I did a lot of moasics and stained glass. All through this period of time I really wanted to design and make jewelry. It gnawed at me like a great void in my life. In my late 20's I was in an accident that left my left eye affected amongst other things. I could not do close work, thus the ducks and boxes. In my mid 60's the eye problem started to ease!! I began to fulfil my life dream. at 69 I am very, very happy making jewelry! I have never shared this before, I guess I was embaressed about the eye thing. And, now, in my late 60's, I am making one of a kind jewelry pieces. I guess it is an ongoing adventure-one I am grateful to be part of! Thank you, Louis Waitt
